| El Mozote Massacre was a traggic part of the history of the civil war on My Country (El Salvador, 1979-1992)a history covered in pain, pain we still living each day thanks to the shadows of the past civil war. El Mozote was a small comunity in Morazan that has developed a little in the pass of the years, it was in a "Red Zone" where the Guerrilla was more dominating (that region) but in El Mozote there wasn't any Guerrillas actually, because they were neutral, they had a normal relationship with both of the band, the army and guerrillas. In 1981 was used a "Tierra arrasada" (Clean terrain?) tactic, the order was "Everything that moves, die" even dogs, pigs and of course, all the people living in El Mozote and near comunitys... the number of victims is like 800 or something... its considered one of the most violent act of modern times in America... And it was covered with rage from the government of El Salvador and from USA, because USA was helping the Army with the condition that the government was going to respect the human rights and bla bla... Actually, those who did the killing was the "Batallón Atlacatl" and they where trained by USA... Most of the victims were childrens, like 400 or something its the number. The survivors of the massacre can be counted with one hand. One of them, the most know, was Rufina Amaya (rest in peace, died in 2007), she survived the most horrible almost miraclously, and lost her husband and 4 childs... her history its really sad... You can find more if you google it, you can even find in youtube some videos with Rufina Amaya talking about how she survived... In memory of that event, I made this poster, those names that can be readed in background are some of the names of the victims, the phrase reads "El Mozote" 28 years after the massacre "They haven't died, they are with us, with you, and with whole humanity" El Mozote, 11 December, 1981 |
